Enchanting | Crafting

This section of the guide for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim provides the most crucial details on how to enchant items. We cover where you can perform enchanting, the steps involved in the process, and how to achieve the desired outcome.

Enchanting is a fascinating topic that appeals to all character archetypes. The primary reason for this is that enhancing items makes the player’s character more powerful and resourceful on the battlefield. The core principle of enchanting involves imbuing items with magical spells that add completely new properties. The process itself is not complicated, but its concepts are vastly different from those of smithing and alchemy. One of the most significant differences is that you cannot acquire any plans or recipes, as it is up to you to add new spells to the list of possible enchantments. Enchanting also revolves heavily around gathering objects and using them wisely. Arcane enchanters are required to perform all tasks, but it is important to note that you do not need to own one. You can visit one of the enchanters residing in Skyrim, and they will be happy to share their workspace with you without demanding any payment for granting you complete access. If you do not want to waste too much time searching for arcane enchanters, you can visit Dragonsreach in Whiterun (as shown in the screenshot above).

Enchanting involves several steps, and each step is explained below. However, you must know at least one enchantment for things to work. The only way to learn new enchantments is by disenchanting magical items from the player’s inventory. To do this, you must interact with an arcane enchanter, select the first option from the list, and then choose the item you want to disenchant.

Important! The magical item you have chosen for the disenchanting procedure (to learn its effects) is always destroyed, and it cannot be reversed! Therefore, it is always essential to disenchant only the things you do not need at all and that are not too valuable in case you want to sell them. Moreover, the player always learns the “universal” enchantment, so it does not matter how good the magical item was before it was disenchanted. For example, if you choose to disenchant a ring of lesser sneak and a much more valuable ring of greater sneak, you will receive the same enchantment in both cases – Fortify sneak. So, if you choose the less valuable ring, you will get the same result, and you will not have to destroy the better item. Additionally, all objects related to the enchantments you already know automatically become inactive on the list, so you do not have to worry about learning the same enchantments again and wasting perfectly good items.

My suggestion is to start practicing with imbuing items after you have learned some spells (there are different lists for weapons and armor). At the beginning of the game, it is advisable to enchant less valuable items because the result of the experiment depends on the skill of the main character and on the unlocked perks from the Enchanting skill group. First, select the item you want to enchant. It is essential to know that you can enchant both standard and magical items (in the latter case, the existing bonuses will not be deleted, but new ones will be added).

The second step is to choose the enchantment that will affect the item you selected in the first step. Keep in mind that there are separate enchantments for armor and weapons. The game allows you to apply only one enchantment, but if you have unlocked the Extra Effect perk from the Enchanting skill tree, you can choose two enchantments. It is advisable to purchase this perk as soon as it becomes available because adding two magical effects will create much better upgraded items.

The final step is to choose a filled soul gem from your inventory that will be used during the enchanting procedure. Soul gems are common in the game and can be found in locations occupied by monsters, as well as in cities, villages, and other places where you’ll encounter friendly beings. You can also purchase the gems from merchants, but it is not recommended because they are usually very expensive.

As you might have noticed, the game requires you to use a FILLED soul gem in step three, which means it must be a gem that has already captured a soul. Most of the gems you’ll find are not filled, so you’ll need to fill them to make them viable in the enchanting procedure. There are two ways to fill soul gems. The first method is to use a Soul Trap spell from the Conjuration school of magic. The second method is to equip the main character with a magical weapon that has a similar ability to capture souls. In both cases, the soul will be trapped only if the targeted being is killed within a certain time limit (which can range from a few seconds to even a minute). The entrapment is always visualized (as shown in the picture above), and you will also receive a message in the top left corner of the screen to let you know whether you have succeeded or not.

When playing the game, it’s important to remember that using a magical weapon will consume a portion of the soul used to enchant it. To recharge it, open your inventory and select the weapon, then press the T key to access a list of available soul gems. You can choose to use a better gem or multiple smaller gems, but it’s recommended to use the smaller gems first to avoid exceeding your carry limit.

What is Enchanting in Minecraft?

Enchanting is a game mechanic in Minecraft that allows players to add special bonuses and effects to their weapons, armor, and tools. To enchant an item, players need to use an enchantment table and spend experience levels as currency. Enchantments can provide a variety of benefits, such as increased damage, faster mining, or improved durability. The type and level of enchantment that can be applied to an item depend on the player’s experience level and the number of bookshelves surrounding the enchantment table.

What is Crafting in Minecraft?

Crafting is the process of creating items and blocks in Minecraft using various materials and resources. Players can craft a wide range of objects, from simple tools and weapons to more complex items like furniture and machines. Crafting requires players to arrange materials in a specific pattern in a crafting grid. The items that can be crafted depend on the materials used and the pattern chosen. Crafting is an essential aspect of gameplay in Minecraft, as it enables players to obtain the resources they need to survive and thrive in the game world.

How do Enchanting and Crafting work together in Minecraft?

Enchanting and Crafting are two interrelated mechanics in Minecraft. Players can use crafting to create the items they need to enchant, such as weapons, armor, and tools. Enchanting, in turn, can enhance these items and make them more effective in combat or resource gathering. The enchantments that can be applied to an item depend on the materials used to craft it. For example, a diamond sword can be enchanted with more powerful abilities than a wooden sword. Crafting and Enchanting work together to provide players with a wide range of options for creating and improving their gear in Minecraft.
