Rescue Mission

Keep in mind that this quest is optional, but completing it may bring you closer to unlocking the next major Companions quest.

Vilkas or Skjor may offer this quest. Once you accept, you’ll need to rescue a randomly selected person being held in a random location in the game world. Leave Whiterun and head to the marked location. Be prepared to face a large group of tough enemies, including those with magical abilities (as seen in the above screen). Take out the magic-wielders first.

After the fight, locate the kidnapped person (as seen in the above screen). If the person is in a public area, no further action is needed. If they are in a cage, you’ll need to open it using a lockpick or a key found on one of the defeated bandits’ corpses.

But your mission isn’t over yet. You’ll need to safely escort the person back home. If possible, use fast travel to avoid endangering their health (as seen in the above screen). If not, try to use a carriage or travel to the nearest unlocked location and walk the rest of the way. Once you’ve reached your destination, talk to the rescued person before returning to the quest giver to collect your reward in gold.
