Advanced Crafting

This guide chapter provides information about the usefulness and functions of all items that can be crafted in workshop mode. You will also learn about the constructions that require certain perks to build.

Structures are objects that include walls, doors, fences, stairs, and roofs. They can be used to create buildings and rooms, but their presence on settlement territory does not impact any of the settlement’s indicators.

With structures, you can construct entire houses, fences, or bridges. It is important to note that all structures can be built without any perks. The most frequently used resources for structures are Wood, Steel, and Rubber.

A list of items that provide information about all resources can be found in the Crafting – Resources table chapter.

Furniture includes objects such as beds, sleeping bags, chairs, and containers that are used to fill the structures. They have an impact on the beds indicator. Like structures, all furniture can be constructed without any perks. The most frequently used resources for furniture are Wood, Steel, Cloth, and Screw.

Decorations are primarily used for aesthetic purposes, making a room or location look better. This category includes items such as carpets, portraits, signs, and drink machines. Decorations do not impact any indicator of the settlement, and they can be constructed without any perks. The most frequently used resources for decorations are Wood, Steel, Cloth, and Rubber.

In this category, you will find electric generators, lights, switches, electric posts, and alarms. They impact the power indicator. Science! rank 1 is required for constructing the Large Generator, Laser Trap, and Stroboscope, while Hacker rank 1 is required for constructing Terminals. The most frequently used resources for electricity are Steel, Gears, Copper, Rubber, Electricity, and Ceramics.

Fortifications include turrets, traps, and guard outposts that defend settlements from raiders. Their effectiveness can depend on many items found in the Electricity category, such as terminals, pressure plates, or switches. Lack of or a small number of fortifications increases the chance for the settlement to be attacked by bandits, which reduces the happiness indicator if they are not eliminated quickly enough. Fortifications impact the defense indicator. Science! and Gun Nut are the related perks required for constructing various types of turrets. The most frequently used resources for fortifications are Steel, Wood, Electricity, Gears, Screws, and Aluminum.

Resources are constructions that provide access to drinkable water, crops, and useful side items such as brahmin feeders, bells that summon settlers, or your own quick travel point. Science! rank 1 is required for constructing a Large Water Purifier. Resources impact the water and food indicators. The most frequently used resources for resources are Food, Oil, Steel, Cloth, and Ceramic.

Stores offer a variety of items for sale, including weapons, ammunition, clothing, armor, food, resources, and medicine. Upgrading stores increases the number of products available, and sometimes legendary items can be found. Settlers can be assigned to work in stores, which affects the happiness indicator.

Related perks:

Local Leader, rank 2 – required for building all stores

Cap Collector, rank 2 – required for building Shopping Centers, Armor Centers, Weapon Centers, Fabric Centers, and Restaurants

Medic, rank 1 – required for building all medical facilities
