Magazines found in Cambridge – Sector 5

Below is a table of all the magazines available in the fifth sector of the map, near Cambridge city. More information on specific secrets can be found later in the chapter.



Astoundingly Awesome Tales

Dogmeat takes 10% less damage while traveling with you.

Location: ITW Ruins (the Institute) [107]

You can only visit this collectible later into the main storyline, after building the teleporter. It can be found in the Institute HQ under the ITW ruins on the table of the external balcony in the central part of the Institute.

Grognak the Barbarian

Critical hits in melee combat (without weapons or with melee weapons) deal 5% more damage.

Location: Corvega Assemply Plant [10]

The secret is located inside the upper part of the factory where cars are dismantled. It can be found in the small room accessed through the balcony.

You can find this collectible inside the Ticonderoga building during Railroad’s quest Operation Ticonderoga. The issue is in the North-Western office on the top floor.

The secret is hidden in an underground location, in a closed room found before reaching the metro station.

If you successfully persuade men, you will receive a 25% boost in experience points. The location for this secret can be found at Bunker Hill [33], where a spiral staircase leads to the top of the monument. Moving on, the Massachusetts Surgical Journal can be found at Cambridge Polymer Labs [40]. This will increase the damage to limbs by 2% when used. The secret can be found on the first floor of the building, inside the director’s office which is locked with a master lock. Another issue of the Massachusetts Surgical Journal can be found at Greenetech Genetics [95]. The secret can be found on one of the lower floors, placed on a table near the coaches. The Tales of a Junktown Jerky Vendor can be found at Mystic Pines [52]. This item will give you better prices while buying items from merchants. The secret can be found on a table to the left of the main entrance, next to a TV. Another issue of Tales of a Junktown Jerky Vendor can be found at Super-Duper Mart [53]. The secret is located on the magazine rack in the northern part of the store. The Total Hack will provide you with the source code for hacking protectrons, and can be found at Wattz Electronics [65]. The magazine is located on a table in the Northern part of the basement, guarded by robots. Lastly, the U.S. Covert Operations Manual can be found at USS Constitution [28]. This item decreases the risk of being detected by enemies while sneaking. The secret is located on a small table in the captain’s cabin. The Wasteland Survival Guide can be found at The Wreck of USS Riptide [89], where you can regain 50% more health when eating fruits and vegetables. The secret is located on a desk of the ship advanced to the west, closest to the partially raised bridge, and is guarded by bandits.

ITW Ruins (the Institute) [107] – Astoundingly Awesome Tales


To find this collectible, you must first locate the Institute HQ and be granted permission to explore it. To do this, you need to complete the main quest – Institutionalized, and agree to work for Father. The collectible is located on a triangular table on the balcony in one of the Institute’s worker rooms. The screenshots above show the exact location of the item.

Corvega Assembly Plant [10] – Grognak the Barbarian

This is a well-hidden secret that can easily be missed when exploring the factory. Begin by securing the area and eliminating all of the enemies and defense turrets. Start at the main lower entrance but do not use it. Instead, go left and take the small ramp leading up, then turn right and head towards the door that leads to the upper part of the factory.

After going through the door, you will find yourself in a large room where cars are dismantled. Eliminate the enemies in this room and then head to the upper left control room to find the comic. The location of the comic has been marked on the picture above. Turn left and reach the metal balcony, then go upstairs and press the button to extend the balcony leading to the secret room. The location of the secret is shown in the pictures above.

Fraternal Post 115 [23] – Guns and Bullets

Upon entering the post territory, head to the main room on the ground floor of the building. There, you will find Dead Eye, an elite supermutant. Try to defeat him before he activates the alarm, otherwise new supermutants will appear. Watch out for mine traps as well. The magazine is located on the rostrum, which is marked on the picture above.

BADTFL Regional Office [24] – Guns and Bullets


Head to the western part of the building occupied by bandits. There is a small office there, guarded by a door with an easy-to-open lock. Once you enter, head towards the desk to find the secret. The location of the secret has been shown in the pictures above.

Cambridge Police Station [98] – Guns and Bullets

The secret can be found on the police station territory. You can only access it later in the game, after you start cooperating with the Brotherhood of Steel. After their ship arrives, the station will become the quarter of more than a dozen soldiers from the faction. Explore the leader’s office to find a closed safe with an expert-level lock. The location of the safe is shown in the picture above, and the magazine is hidden inside.

La Coiffe – USS Constitution [28]


To find La Coiffe magazine, head west from the USS Constitution ship until you reach the Charlestown Laundry, which is near a crossroad. The magazine can be found on one of the machines inside the building.

Live & Love – College Square [32]


Upon arriving at College Square, locate the underground door and descend to one of the lower levels. Before reaching the station, you will come across a room with cash registers, as shown in picture 1. The secret is hidden inside, behind a closed door that you will need to pick the lock to open. The precise location of the secret is marked in picture 2.

Massachusetts Surgical Journal – Cambridge Polymer Labs [40]


Inside Cambridge Polymer Labs, head straight to the first floor and locate the director’s office, which is behind a master-locked door. Defeat the ghoul director and search the large desk in the location shown in picture 2 to find the secret.

Massachusetts Surgical Journal- Greenetech Genetics [95]


After starting the Hunter Hunted quest, explore the lower floors of Greenetech Genetics until you reach the northern room shown in the pictures above. The magazine is located on a round table between two red coaches.

Tales of a Junktown Jerky Vendor – Super-Duper Mart [53]


Eliminate all the ghouls as you make your way to the northern part of Super-Duper Mart. The secret is located on a magazine rack, as shown in the above picture.

U.S. Covert Operations Manual – USS Constitution [28]

To obtain the U.S. Covert Operations Manual, board the USS Constitution by crossing the destroyed building that supports the ship. Descend to the lowest deck and climb the ladders to the upper levels twice. You can access the captain’s cabin immediately or after meeting with the first mate. The magazine is located on a small table in one of the cabin’s corners, under the flag hanging from the ceiling.
