Gloomwood: Coast Caves – walkthrough

The Coast Caves are the second area you visit in the Gloomwood game. Our walkthrough will guide you through disabling the electric gate, dealing with mutant dogs, activating the elevator and escaping the caves.

Coast Caves is the second level in Gloomwood, and our walkthrough provides a detailed explanation on how to complete it. You’ll learn how to disable the electric gate, eliminate the mutant dogs, sneak past the elevator, activate it and leave the first part of the caves.

  • Disabling the electric gate
  • Reaching the elevator in the cave
  • Activating the elevator
  • Using the elevator and leaving caves

Disabling the electric gate

You’ll enter the Coast Caves from the side of Croup’s Fishery, which we’ve explained in detail on the previous page of the walkthrough.

The linear path will lead you to the electric gate – do not touch it or you will take damage. You must locate the generator to turn off the power supply to the gate.

Continue along the path. The path on the right leads to a small area with a table and some lesser loot, while the left path leads to a balcony with a corpse and a cartridge.

The path in the middle, shown in the picture above, leads to the further part of the caves.

On your way, you’ll come across a locked gate that requires a key – read the note and remember this place.

Choose the way to the bottom part of the caves. You’ll reach the place with the Phonograph for saving the game and the Mines Generator Key. You’ll also find locked doors in the area with a note attached next to them, which you’ll open later from the other side.

Return to the locked door in the upper level of the caves with the key. Interact with the lock, and you’ll open the gate.

You’ll get into the room with the generator. You can pull the lever to turn off the power supply and head towards the gate at the very beginning of the caves. This gate is no longer electrified.

Reaching the elevator in the cave

As you continue through the caves, you’ll encounter mutant dogs. The best combat tactic is to use a revolver – two headshots can kill the dog on a normal difficulty level. Fighting with melee weapons is risky, although possible (remember to check your health and fight with one dog at a time).

Try to conserve your ammo and return to the phonograph to save the game if necessary.

Sneaking past the mutant dogs is difficult because they can sniff you out even if you approach them from behind. You can try to use throwables to distract the dogs. Bottles work best here, as when they break, nearby dogs will investigate the suspicious sound. This gives you a chance to quickly sneak past them.

Dogs may not react to body parts, as enemy AI is not always reliable in the game. A lantern can be found upon entering a new location that helps to explore dark caves, but hiding it is advisable when encountering intelligent opponents. It is suggested to move slowly through the caves, dealing with one monster at a time and being cautious of chasms. Exploring areas with corpses can lead to finding treasures such as Raw Gem (Small) and the Mines Storage Key, which can be used to access the storage room containing medicine and ammunition. A small tank in one of the new locations contains another Raw Gem (Small). The lower path involves diving deeper to reach the elevator and killing or avoiding the dog. The upper path involves sneaking past guards with torches to reach the cavern with the elevator. To activate the elevator, the generator must be turned on, and a new shortcut can be created by destroying and moving barrels and chests. The elevator is protected by guards, and distracting them with a bottle is advisable.

To avoid a difficult fight, it’s recommended to climb on the back of the elevator, approach from behind, and stab one of the guards. The second enemy can be taken out in close combat or from a distance using a revolver.

Be cautious of the guards’ torches as they can cause temporary fire damage to your character. However, the guards can also accidentally set themselves on fire, leading to a quicker defeat.

Press the elevator call button after choosing your approach, ensuring that the generator has been turned on correctly. Once inside the elevator, travel to the upper level.

On the upper level, there are two more guards, with one “hidden” behind a rock on the left. Eliminating them is optional and can be done via stabbing. Removing them will provide access to a humorous note.

If you prefer to avoid combat, take the left path towards the exit of the caves. This route will lead to a new location, Coast Cliffside.
