Rescue from Neugrad – p.1 | Stormcloak Rebellion Quests

New Main Objective: Meet the Men Near Fort Neugrad

Note! This mission is received during the Liberation of Skyrim main Stormcloak Rebellion Quest and must be completed to advance to the next part.

Consult the world map and locate the scouts mentioned by Galmar in the previous quest, who are situated quite a distance from Fort Neugrad (as depicted in the above screen). The fort itself is located to the south of the current camp, but it is recommended to travel south from Helgen instead. This way you can take the hard-surfaced path instead of traversing through the woods.

When you arrive, converse with the scouts’ leader, Ralof (as shown in the above screen). Ask him about the rescue plans for the prisoners. He will reveal a secret entrance to the fort through an underwater cave. He also suggests that you meet him and his men in the courtyard after freeing the prisoners. Whether you agree to his plan or not is irrelevant, as getting to the cave does not require advanced thieving skills.

New Main Objective: Sneak into the Fort

Before proceeding, wait for nightfall to reduce the risk of being spotted by enemy guards. Head directly northeast towards the fort (as depicted in the above screen).

After a while, it is advisable to crouch or at least move slowly to avoid being heard or seen. Wait for the guard patrolling the wall to go left and continue west. Eventually, you will reach a small dock on a lake (as shown in the above screen).

Jump into the water and swim towards the marked spot (as depicted in the above screen). Your character will automatically enter the underwater cave. Wait until you arrive at Fort Neugrad Prison.

New Main Objective: Free the Prisoners

Map legend: 1 – starting point; 2 – cells with the Stormcloak soldiers; 3 – entrance to the roof; 4 – entrance to the main courtyard.

It is recommended to crouch in this area as well, but even if you are discovered, there is no need to worry as the guards watching the courtyard will not come here. Use the only available path to the north (as shown in the above screen).

Be cautious while exploring the cellar, as you may fall into a bear trap. Use the stairs, and when you reach the cells, eliminate the Legionnaire guarding your allies (as shown in the above screen). Be aware that a second guard may show up soon. Try to deal with him swiftly as well.

There are four Stormcloak soldiers in this area (as shown in the above screen). You can unlock their cells by picking the poorly secured locks or acquire the Fort Neugrad Prison Key by searching the body of the second guard (another key is available in a nearby chest).

FAQ

What is the Rescue from Neugrad quest?

The Rescue from Neugrad quest is a mission in the Stormcloak Rebellion Quests line in the game Skyrim. In this quest, the Dragonborn is tasked with rescuing a group of prisoners from the Imperial-controlled Neugrad Keep. The prisoners are all Stormcloak soldiers, and their release will provide a significant boost to the rebellion’s strength. The mission involves infiltrating the keep, navigating through traps and enemy soldiers, and freeing the prisoners. Once the prisoners are freed, the Dragonborn must then escort them safely out of the keep. The success of this quest will greatly benefit the Stormcloak Rebellion’s campaign against the Imperials.

How do I start the Rescue from Neugrad quest?

The Rescue from Neugrad quest is part of the larger Stormcloak Rebellion Quests line, so completing some of the earlier quests in that line is necessary before this one becomes available. In particular, the player must have completed the quests “The Jagged Crown” and “Message to Whiterun.” Once those quests are finished, the player can receive the Rescue from Neugrad quest by speaking to Galmar Stone-Fist, the second-in-command of the Stormcloak Rebellion. He will give the player the details of the mission and send them on their way. The quest can be initiated at any time after those earlier quests are completed, and it is not necessary to progress through the main storyline of the game to begin this quest.
