Ill Met By Moonlight – p. 2

Tracking down Sinding

New main objective: Commence the hunt

First, open the world map and locate the destination – Bloated Man’s Grotto (shown in the above screen). The location is situated near a large lake, but it’s essential to approach it from the northern side. I suggest starting from Rorikstaed (heading south-east) or Whiterun (heading south-west).

Be cautious as you may face wild animals, bandits, or Giants on your way. Once you’ve reached the destination, locate the entrance to Bloated Man’s Grotto (shown in the above screen).

New main objective: Join the hunt

Enter the cave and after reaching a small camp, speak to the dying Khajiit J’Kier (shown in the above screen). The hunter will inform you that the Khajiits were unable to defeat the werewolf, who turned out to be stronger and smarter than them.

After the conversation, take the north path (shown in the above screen). I recommend saving the game as you’ll soon be faced with an important decision:

  • If you wish to assist Sinding, proceed to Option A – Spare Sinding.
  • If you want to fulfill Hircine’s wish and kill Sinding, skip to Option B – Kill Sinding.

Option A – Spare Sinding

Note! If you wish to kill Sinding instead of cooperating with him, skip to Option B – Kill Sinding.

New main objective: Kill the Hunters

You’ll soon come across Sinding standing on a rock ledge (who has transformed into a werewolf in the meantime). Speak to him, and Sinding will pledge to stay away from civilization if you spare him. Choose the upper dialogue option (shown in the above screen), promising to help him get rid of the hunters who are trying to kill him.

Follow Sinding’s steps, using the stairs and heading north-west. I suggest checking the chest you come across as it may contain valuable items. Soon, you’ll encounter two hunters – Rissing and Trasun (shown in the above screen). Rissing is more resistant, so he should be killed last. If you prefer ranged attacks, don’t jump down and attack the hunters from a higher ground. Note – during this and other battles, avoid using AoE spells as Sinding may turn against you if you hurt him!

Continue exploring the area. The second group will consist of three characters – Torkild, Yar gro-Gatuk, and Eriana (shown in the above screen). Yar and Eriana should be killed first as they’ll probably attack you and Sinding from a distance.

Proceed further, and another battle awaits you. This time you’ll have to eliminate three hunters – Heratar, Ra’kheran, and Ahjisi (shown in the above screen). Don’t let them surround you even if you’re playing as a warrior as their attack can cause severe damage.

New main objective: Talk to Sinding

After the battle, approach Sinding and speak to him (shown in the above screen). The werewolf will thank you for your help and keep his promise.

Even though the quest has ended, it’s recommended to return to the camp of the Khajiits you killed and take the path leading east. Once out of Bloated Man’s Grotto, a second conversation with the Aspect of Hircine will begin automatically (as shown in the screenshot above). Hircine will be impressed that you were able to handle his hunters, and as a reward, he will lift the curse off the Ring of Hircine. This will allow you to use it as you wish, with two werewolf transformations per 24 hours instead of the default one.

Option B – Kill Sinding

Note: If you want to spare Sinding instead of killing him, skip to Option A – Spare Sinding.

New main objective: Kill Sinding

You will soon come across Sinding standing on a rock ledge, having transformed into a werewolf. Speak with him, and he will promise to stay away from civilization if you spare him. Choose the lower dialogue option (as shown in the screenshot above) to reject his offer and start the hunt.

Follow Sinding’s footsteps, using the stairs and heading northwest. It’s recommended to check the chest you come across on your way, as it contains valuable items. The running werewolf will occasionally run into other hunters taking part in the hunt (as shown in the screenshot above), providing an opportunity to catch up and deal damage. This method also works well because Sinding is more interested in attacking the hunters than you.

You probably won’t be able to defeat Sinding with the first group of hunters. You will have a better chance with the second or third group (as shown in the screenshot above). Don’t worry about Sinding running away after dealing with all three groups; once all the hunters are dead, he will attack you instead.

One way to slow down the werewolf is by using potions, weapons, or spells with a paralysis effect. The Slow Time Shout can also be useful (as shown in the screenshot above), making it easier to land successful attacks. To maximize damage, try changing into a werewolf (as shown in the screenshot above) and using claw attacks, as they deal high damage. Keep Sinding occupied at all times, as his health bar regenerates quickly.

New main objective: Skin Sinding

Keep fighting until you defeat Sinding. Approach his body, interact with it, and confirm that you want to skin it (as shown in the screenshot above) to obtain Sinding’s Skin.

New main objective: Speak with Hircine

You will soon come across the Aspect of Hircine, with whom you need to speak (as shown in the screenshot above). Hircine will be pleased with the results of the hunt and will reward you with the valuable light armor Savior’s Hide. You don’t have to worry about the curse anymore, as Hircine will take the cursed ring from you.
