Nier Automata: Trophies and Achievements

On this page, you will find instructions on how to unlock all the achievements and earn the platinum trophy on PS4 and PS5 for NieR Automata.

This page serves as a comprehensive trophy guide for Nier Automata. We have provided in-depth explanations of each trophy and achievement, including their specific requirements and how to obtain them to ultimately achieve the platinum trophy.

The list of trophies for Nier Automata includes 48 achievements, consisting of 1 platinum trophy (only available on PS4 and PS5), 2 gold trophies, 13 silver trophies, and 32 bronze trophies. The Game of the YoRHa Edition does not offer any additional trophies associated with the DLC. The Trophy Shop option allows players to buy trophies for gold after completing all 17 chapters of the campaign, but it is not necessary to use this feature. It takes at least 50 hours to unlock the platinum trophy even with the Trophy Shop option, and players must be prepared for a long grind and collecting unique items and data. No trophy can be missed irreversibly, as the Chapter Select option allows players to repeat selected parts of the game without losing previously acquired items. Playing online with Network Features enabled is recommended, especially during the final battle associated with the E ending and The Minds That Emerged trophy, as it allows players to ask for help from other players and complete the battle with ease. The Final Words trophy is a platinum trophy.

Beautiful World

Trophy type: silver

Achievement description: Get the A2 ending.

To earn this trophy, complete the A2 ending of the game. This ending is also tied to progress in the main plot and cannot be missed.

Comment: The following are descriptions and tips for obtaining different trophies in the game.

The Minds That Emerged

This gold trophy is earned by watching the final credits and unlocking the E ending. To achieve this ending, players must first complete Chapter 17 in Route C and D, then side with A2 in the final part to unlock the C ending. After unlocking both the C and D endings, players must let the game roll credits and complete the fight during the end credits by agreeing to get help from other players. Finally, players must refuse to help weaker players at the very end to unlock the E ending, which will trigger the cut-scene and award the trophy.

The Circle of Death

This bronze trophy is related to the game’s mechanics. After death, players can return to the place where they died, interact with their corpse, and select the option “Retrieve” to restore all progress made before death. The corpse is marked on the map, making it easier to find. This trophy can be earned by simply retrieving your body once.

Tip: Remember that corpses are marked on the map, so you don’t have to remember where you died.

Cherish Our Resources

This silver trophy is earned by collecting 100 bodies found in the game. It is easier to achieve this trophy by playing online with Network Features enabled, as you can find the bodies of other players from their playthroughs. When playing offline, you may still encounter nameless dead bodies, but this will happen less frequently. To collect a body, select “Pray and Continue” or “Continue”, then select “Retrieve”. This will give temporary bonuses to stats and loot.

Tip: Return to locations where duels with main bosses of the game took place, such as the stage in the Amusement Park or the desert ruins, to increase your chance of finding multiple bodies.

First Errand

This bronze trophy is awarded for completing the first side quest. Players can choose any side quest to complete.

The Mercenary

This silver trophy is earned by completing 80% of the game’s side quests.

Commentary: This article continues the discussion of the previous achievement, First Errand. The game has a total of 60 side quests, meaning that to earn the trophy, you must complete at least 48 of them. For a comprehensive list of available quests, refer to the Side Missions page of our guide. Here are some significant details to keep in mind regarding this achievement:

  1. You can revisit unfinished or missed quests in the next route by using the Chapter Select option, which unlocks after completing the main storyline. This option is particularly helpful if the quest requires you to defeat high-level opponents.
  2. Not all missions are immediately accessible. Some may require reaching a specific chapter of the game and completing a specific path. Our walkthrough describes how to initiate each quest.
  3. The game saves your quest progress continuously, and you will not lose the percentage progress of completing a quest. However, this only applies to missions that you have previously completed 100% and have disappeared from the active log bookmark.
  4. In addition to reading the quest descriptions, we recommend that you regularly check the map for new markers. Many markers indicate the start of new quests.
  5. You can monitor your current progress in the Quests tab under the Cleared Quests item (see image above).

Information Master

Trophy Type: Bronze

Achievement Description: Discover 80% of the archives.

Commentary: Archives are journal entries located in the Intel tab that cover a variety of topics, including important characters, bosses, or past events.

Do not worry if you fail to find any archives during the first playthrough of Route A since you will begin encountering them in Route B. Many archives are hidden in locked boxes that only 9S can hack. The Closed Boxes – How to Open Them? page provides tips on opening boxes and locating them more efficiently using the Item Scan chip. With this chip, you should explore all known locations carefully and watch for box markers on the mini-map.

You may also obtain records in other ways, such as by making progress in the main storyline or completing specific optional quests. Fortunately, you do not need to collect all 100% of the archives, but only 80%. The game retains information about the archives you have discovered, and you will not lose it if you use the Chapter Select option at the end of the game.

Destruction is My Job

Trophy Type: Bronze

Achievement Description: Unlock 80% of the unit information.

Commentary: Unit Data is a code entry that provides information about the characters and machines you encounter, both friendly and hostile. You must unlock 80% of all entries, and you can track your current progress in the Intel tab.

The best way to obtain Unit Data is by defeating enemies. It’s important to note that even enemies that are minimally different from each other or located in separate areas may have separate Unit Data entries. It’s recommended to engage in combat with frequently encountered enemies instead of avoiding them. Every time a new entry is obtained, a message will appear above the mini-map in the bottom right corner of the screen.

Additionally, some Unit Data entries can be obtained by interacting with friendly machines in Machine Village. After reaching Pascal’s village for the first time, talk to every machine at least once. It’s beneficial to talk to every NPC encountered to unlock potential Unit Data entries.

Chip Collector

Trophy type: Bronze

Achievement description: Collect 80% of the chips.

Chips are items that provide bonuses when installed in the currently controlled Android’s operating system. These chips can be obtained by finding them in loot, receiving them as rewards for completing quests, or purchasing them from merchants. It’s recommended to explore and complete tasks to collect as many chips as possible before buying the remaining ones from vendors. Pay attention to the number of chips held in the second column of the trading window and purchase the ones with a count of 0. Keep in mind that some chips have different quality variants, but only one chip with a given name is necessary.

Weapons Maniac

Trophy type: Silver

Achievement description: Obtain all pod programs.

Pod programs are active skills that can be assigned to the player’s pod. The list of pod programs includes Laser, Mirage, Hammer, Blade, Spear, P Shield, M Shield, Wave, Wire, Decoy, Slow, Repair, Bomb, Gravity, Volt, Missile, and Scanner. Pod programs can be obtained by making progress in the main storyline, completing side quests, exploring crates, and purchasing from vendors after completing the main storyline. The player can view their pod programs in the Skills tab.

Tools of the Trade

Trophy type: Bronze

Achievement description: Upgrade any weapon to the maximum level.

To obtain this achievement, the player must upgrade any weapon to the maximum level.

Tip: To upgrade a weapon to level 4, you need to find a hidden vendor named Masamune at Forest Castle. Unfortunately, you can’t do this at the blacksmith. The process of locating Masamune and using his services is explained on the Weapons level 4 – How to achieve it? page.

Even if you find the secret dealer, you may not have the necessary ingredients to upgrade weapons from Level 3 to Level 4. Keep playing the game, and you may get the items you need as loot or a reward for completing a side quest. Then return to Masamune to upgrade your equipment to the highest level.

Inorganic Blade

Trophy type: silver

Achievement description: Upgrade all weapons to their maximum level.

Tip: This trophy is more challenging than Tools of the Trade. You have to find all the weapons in the game and get the ingredients to upgrade them to level 4 at Masamune. You can find the list of available weapons on the Weapons list page.

Rare items needed to upgrade weapons can be obtained as loot, rewards for quests, or purchased from vendors. Check out what’s on offer at:

  1. Emil while traveling through the City Ruins
  2. Trader from Amusement Park

Supreme Support Weapons

Trophy type: silver

Achievement description: Upgrade all pods to their highest level.

Tip: You need to unlock all 3 pods and achieve the Pod Hunter trophy before upgrading each pod to level 4. Maintenance Shop Owner from Resistance Camp offers pod upgrade services. Choose Upgrade Pod after talking to the NPC.

Upgrading pods requires rare crafting materials and gold. You can:

  1. collect loot from defeated opponents, with the rarest resources from golden opponents,
  2. open closed crates for materials,
  3. complete side quests for unique resources as rewards.

Never sell anything related to crafting, unless you have 99 pieces, as getting more may be difficult.

Fighting’s Not My Thing

Trophy type: Bronze

Achievement description: Play your first hacking mini-game.

Tip: You can’t miss this achievement, as hacking is required to complete some of the main objectives of the game. You’ll first encounter hacking mechanics when you reach Route B, as only 9S can hack. Hold the triangle button on vulnerable opponents or devices to hack them.

A Scanner’s Power

Trophy type: Bronze

Achievement description: Destroy 100 machines with hacking.

Tip: This trophy is also related to hacking and only available when playing as 9S in certain chapters.

If you complete hacking mini-games, the machines you attack will explode. Weaker machines will be destroyed instantly, while stronger ones will have only a portion of their health taken away. You can repeatedly hack stronger machines to destroy them completely.

Machines vs. Machines

Trophy Type: Bronze

Achievement Description: Destroy 50 machines with remote control.

Comment: This trophy is related to hacking and 9S. You need to use Remote Control to acquire a machine and attack others. The more powerful the machine you control, the easier it is to eliminate others. You can also use quests that force you to control machines, like in Chapter 9 Route B in the Abandoned Factory.

This section allows you to use remote control on more powerful machines, which may be more effective in making successful eliminations.

The Power of Hate

Trophy Type: Bronze

Achievement Description: Destroy 50 machines in Berserk Mode.

Comment: Berserk Mode is only available for A2, which you unlock after completing Route C and D. You can activate it by pressing and holding both analog knobs (L3 R3). Use it during battles with weaker machines to unlock this achievement faster.

Ruler of the Skies

Trophy Type: Silver

Achievement Description: Destroy 250 enemies with your flight suit.

Comment: This is a simple trophy that you’ll likely unlock during the game without any additional effort. Flight Suit sequences occur repeatedly, and there are always many targets to destroy.

Harvest King

Trophy Type: Silver

Achievement Description: Collect materials from hidden points 10 times.

Comment: Use the scanner you unlock in Chapter 8 to find hidden loot throughout the game world. Assign the scanner as an active skill to one of your pods, and travel with it active to find glowing loot. Find and take 10 treasures of any kind. There are more than ten hidden treasures throughout the game world.

Pod Hunter

Trophy category: Bronze

Description: Locate all the pods.

Commentary: At the start of the game, you receive one pod, and you must find the next two on your own. The guide on the All Pods – How to Unlock Them? page provides instructions on how to obtain them. You can acquire all the pods by completing Route A.

Desire Without Emotion

Trophy category: Silver

Description: Have at least 100000G in your inventory.

Commentary: This is not a challenging achievement. If you want to unlock it quickly, avoid making significant purchases during the initial phase of the campaign – the only recommended purchases are listed on the Gold – How to Collect It? page. This trophy necessitates you to have at least $100,000 in your inventory at any given time. Gold can be obtained by collecting loot dropped by opponents and from boxes, as well as completing side quests (you will usually receive several thousand G for each completed quest).

Animal Rider

Trophy category: Bronze

Description: Ride any animal for a distance of 5 kilometers.

Commentary: This is not a challenging trophy, but it requires some preparation because wild animals initially flee from or attack the heroes. The methods for taming these wild animals are explained on the Animals – How to Tame Them? page. Remember to stock up on Animal Bait (consumable) and Sachet (one-time purchase). You can purchase these items from a Supply Trader at Resistance Camp.

Wild animals like moose and boars appear in the City Ruins and Forest locations. Jump on their back and travel around the game world. You do not have to travel a distance of 5 kilometers at once since the lengths of all rides are combined.

A Round by the Pond

Trophy category: Bronze

Description: Catch 20 different species of fish.

Commentary: This trophy is related to fishing, which is one of the additional activities available in the game. The rules for this mini-game are detailed on the Fish – How to Do It? page.

The game world is home to 41 species of fish, so you need to find less than half of them. Do not expect to catch all the species in one location since you have to visit different areas of the world. The primary fishing spots in the game are:

  1. City Ruins – water reservoirs are located all over the area
  2. Flooded City – water reservoirs are located all over the area
  3. Forest Zone – the river flows through the central part of the forest
  4. Forest Castle – you can fish before entering the castle
  5. Desert Zone – you can fish in the Oasis and in the oil field
  6. Amusement Park – you can fish from one of the bridges and in the canals under the funfair

Fishing Encyclopedia – Nier Automata: Trophies/Achievements – Appendix – NieR Automata Guide”>

All the unique fish species caught appear in Intel -> Fishing Encyclopedia. This allows you to easily determine how many species you are still missing to achieve the achievement.

Hold On! Spare Me, Please!

Trophy type: Bronze

Achievement description: Destroy 10 non-hostile machines.

Comment: This achievement is fairly simple to obtain as there are several locations in the game where you can encounter machines that are not hostile. Examples include the Amusement Park (pictured above) and Machine Village. Simply destroy 10 of these neutral machines to earn the trophy.

What Are You Up To?

Trophy type: Bronze

Achievement description: Discover 10 secrets about 2B.

Comment: This trophy involves peeking under 2B’s dress, which you can do during Route A by keeping the camera low behind her back. 2B will turn around and scold you each time, but repeat this action 9 more times to unlock the achievement.

Not That I’m Complaining…

Trophy type: Bronze

Achievement description: Play as 9S for 1 hour in a certain state.

Comment: The “certain state” referred to in the achievement description is jogging without shorts, which you can activate by self-destructing 9S (hold L3 R3 for a few seconds). This can only be done on the surface, as self-destructing in the bunker will lead to one of the game’s endings. Keep playing in this state for a total of one hour to unlock the trophy.

Come Check It Out!

Trophy type: Bronze

Achievement description: Use the Emil shop for the first time.

Comment: Trader Emil appears in the City Ruins starting from Chapter 7 Route A. Look for his icon on the city map (pictured above). To stop him, lock the camera on him and shoot him. This will prompt him to stop running and open his shop window. You don’t have to buy anything, just open the window to earn the trophy.

Naughty Kids

Trophy type: Gold

Achievement description: Defeat Emil.

Comment: This is the most challenging and time-consuming trophy in the game. Emil can become an optional boss at level 99, as part of the hidden Y ending (described on the List of Endings page). To prepare for this fight, you’ll need to grind and level up to at least level 90. You can also lower the game’s difficulty level to make the fight easier.

Transcendent Being

Trophy type: Bronze

Achievement description: Unlock all endings.

Comment: Check out the List of Endings page for a summary of each ending. The most difficult one to unlock is the Y ending associated with the Naughty Kids trophy.

Endings in Nier Replicant

In Nier Replicant, there are a total of 26 endings that you can unlock. This includes 5 main endings. The game automatically saves each ending on your current save game file. Even if you miss some small endings, don’t worry! After completing the entire storyline, you will unlock the Chapter Select option. This lets you freely repeat all chapters and single sequences of the game.

Lunar Tear in Nier Replicant

The Lunar Tear is a Bronze trophy that you can achieve in Nier Replicant. To get this trophy, you need to visit the place of memories. This is associated with a side quest of Emil’s Memories, which you can start in the shopping center located between the forest and the ruins of the city.

For a description of how to complete this task, see the Forest and Castle chapter Side missions. Once you complete the quest, you will reach the place of memories, which is a kind of cemetery. You will need to receive the appropriate key from Emil to unlock this area.
