The Frostback Basin is an area available in the Jaws of Hakkon DLC. It’s a medium-large coastal location filled with familiar plants, minerals, and monsters. Although the area doesn’t contain many hidden codex entries or chests, the ones you find are often valuable, and you’ll encounter many legendary weapons and armor. Visiting this location early in the game will provide you with the best equipment, as well as various side quests to complete.
To unlock the area, install the Jaws of Hakkon expansion and complete the Investigate Frostback Basin operation. We recommend a suggested experience level of 25, but level 20 will suffice as well. Completing tasks in the area rewards you with experience points, allowing you to level up quickly.
Here are some important things to keep in mind:
- You’ll find astrariums and oculara in the location, both associated with two caves containing legendary items. If you have the required number of shards (12), you can immediately access a secret chamber in the north.
- You’ll see veilfire lanterns on the map, which allow you to collect Veil Quartz, a Tier 4 crafting material. Collecting several dozen pieces of this material will enable you to craft powerful equipment.
- Before starting the final task, Ameridan’s End, make sure to complete all other tasks in the location. Once this task is completed, darkness will fall over the area, making exploration difficult.
