Creating a Character in Disco Elysium

This page of the Disco Elysium guide explains how to create a new character using the game’s character creator. Unlike other games, Disco Elysium’s character creator does not offer many customization options for the main character’s appearance. When creating a new character, players can distribute Attributes and Skill Points and select a Signature Skill. They can also choose one of the pre-made character archetypes available in the game.

Pre-made Character Archetypes

When choosing a pre-made character in Disco Elysium, keep in mind that they may not necessarily suit your play style or have the necessary skills. There are three variants to choose from:

1. Thinker: Harrier is highly intelligent and comes up with brilliant ideas but lacks understanding of other people;
2. Sensitive: Harry has a strong personality due to highly developed Psyche and Physique, but is emotionally unstable;
3. Physical: Harrier is strong and fit due to highly developed Physique and Motorics, but not very intelligent.

Create Your Own Character

To create a unique character, select “Create your own character” in Disco Elysium’s character creator.

In the next window, distribute points among four Attributes: Intellect, Psyche, Physique, and Motorics. You have eight points to allocate, but cannot put them all into one Attribute. The minimum level for each Attribute is 1, and the maximum is 6.

In the next character creator window, players can see their character’s skills. The level of skills associated with each Attribute corresponds to the level of the Attribute. For example, in the image above, Intellect and Psyche skills are level 4, while those linked to Physique and Motorics are level 2. Players can freely add or remove points to individual Attributes in this window.

The final step in creating a character in Disco Elysium is to select a Signature Skill. This skill receives a bonus of +1 and stands out among other skills. Additionally, the learning cap for each skill of the same type increases by 1.
