How to unlock: Meet with Vivienne.
Quest-giver: Vivienne (M2,9)
You must show your willingness to aid the Circle.
This mission is only available after recruiting Vivienne, which can only happen after completing the first side quest (The Imperial Enchanter). Return to Haven and find Vivienne at the Chantry (M2,9). During your conversation with the enchantress, express your desire to assist the Circle. She will then ask you to locate three Circle Tomes hidden in the Hinterlands, The Western Approach, and the Exalted Plains.
Note – If you don’t complete this quest at the beginning of the game, you can still do it after reaching Skyhold.
The Circle Tomes can be found in any order you desire. In the Hinterlands, explore the central region (M3,15a), north of the Crossroads. Climb to the top of one of the towers near the destroyed gate. Use the ladder to climb the walls and jump over to the wooden balcony, as shown in the above screenshot. Climb another ladder to reach the top and find the Circle Tome.

The Western Approach also has one of the tomes. Head to the southern part of the map (M19,12a). You’ll find the Circle Tome in the camp, where a few bandits may be found.
The last volume
The final tome can be found in the central part of the Exalted Plains (M18,22a). Explore the red, dilapidated building located north of the starting point to obtain the tome with ease.
After obtaining all three tomes, return to Skyhold and meet with Vivienne to inform her that you’ve located the books (even if she accompanied you on the journey, you must have this conversation).
