Loot and collectibles
It is advisable to explore newly visited locations and look out for interaction icons that represent items you can pick up. These items are divided into four main groups:
- Crafting ingredients – pick up as many as possible to craft new gadgets to replace the worn-out ones.
- Ready-to-use items – mainly vessels: you can throw them right away or combine them with other objects.
- Ammo – Crossbow bolts are the most valuable (after unlocking this weapon), as they appear quite rarely.

The most important piece of advice is to stay close to light sources – only they guarantee protection from being eaten by rats. You can create new sources of light by trying to light torches and braziers with Ignifer, distract the rats by putting out a guard’s torch or dropping a piece of meat, or move around with sources of light such as torches and sticks. Each stick has a limited burning time, so you have to make it to the next safe place in time!
As you progress through the game, you will discover alternative methods, such as using a prism which can replace a torch.
Before entering dark places, it’s important to check the area for rats. They may unexpectedly surround the heroes. In Chapter 5, you’ll gain access to Pyrite, which can save you from death if attacked by rats. However, Pyrite is limited in availability and inventory space, so it should only be used as a one-time save. Once you’ve used it, be extra careful.
