1. RAGNVALD

Comments: It is recommended that you wait until you have reached higher levels and have acquired better gear before exploring this dungeon since it is occupied by powerful monsters. It is best to explore the dungeon while completing the Dragon Priest Masks side quest, as it is a lair of one of the priests (Otar).

2. REACH IMPERIAL CAMP

Accessibility: Always

Comments: If you have joined the Stormcloaks rebellion, it is best to stay away from this camp since you will be attacked on sight. If the Imperials are your allies, then you should explore this location while completing their civil war quests.

3. SHRINE TO PERYITE

Comments: Initiating a conversation with Kesh the Clean will activate The Only Cure Daedric quest. There are no enemies to encounter here.

4. KARTHWASTEN

Type of Location: Village

Accessibility: Always

Comments: Karthwasten is a small settlement that can be visited as part of the Heart of Dibella side quest. There is an inn here as well as a mine.

5. BROKEN TOWER REDOUBT

Comments: The fort is occupied by bandits and it is best to explore it while completing the Heart of Dibella side quest.

6. OROTHEIM

Type of Location: Cave

Accessibility: Always

Comments: The cave is occupied by bandits.

7. UNDERSTONE KEEP

Type of Location: Castle

Accessibility: Always

Comments: Understone Keep is part of Markarth (Sector 6, Number 8) and is a place you must visit to complete several side quests. You do not have to travel all the way through Markarth to reach the keep since you can directly choose this location from the world map.

8. MARKARTH

Type of Location: City

Accessibility: Always

Comments: Markarth is one of the largest cities in Skyrim, and you will visit this place many times while completing various main and side quests. There are many stores and other interesting places to visit here, including a temple and a mine.

9. MARKARTH STABLES

Type of Location: Stables

Accessibility: Always

Comments: You can hire a carriage here as well as buy a horse.

10. SALVIUS FARM

Type of Location: Cottage

Accessibility is always available for all locations listed below.

At location 11, LEFT HAND MINE, there are no enemies to encounter as it is a campsite.

12. THE LOVER STONE

13. KOLSKEGGR MINE

This mine is occupied by bandits.

14. BLIND CLIFF CAVE

This cave and its surroundings are also being occupied by bandits.

15. SKY HAVEN TEMPLE

Location type: ruins

You cannot visit the temple until you have started the Alduin’s Wall main quest. It’s best to explore it while completing the quest, as it later becomes the main headquarters for the Blades. The only way to get to the temple is to travel through Karthspire (sector 6, number 18).

16. FOUR SKULLS LOOKOUT

Location type: campsite

The lookout is occupied by bandits, and it’s best to explore it while completing the Destruction Ritual Spell College of Winterhold quest.

17. RED EAGLE REDOUBT

Location type: campsite; cave

This redoubt is also occupied by bandits, and it’s best to explore it while completing the Repairing the Phial side quest.

18. KARTHSPIRE

Location type: cave

The Karthspire is also being occupied by bandits and monsters. It’s best to explore this location while completing the Alduin’s Wall main quest, as you’ll receive help from Esbern and reach the Sky Haven Temple (sector 6, number 15) only then.
