Side Contract: Kill Hern

New main goal: Eliminate Hern

Note! This mission is not mandatory and you will have an opportunity to receive it while completing the Whispers in the Dark quest.

To unlock this quest, you need to ask Nazir for new contracts during your conversation with him. It’s important to note that in order to unlock the next main Dark Brotherhood quest, The Silence Has Been Broken, you must complete at least one of the side contracts (I suggest completing all of them). Leave the Dark Brotherhood’s Sanctuary and check the world map. Hern is located in Half-Moon Mill, which unfortunately is far from major settlements (as shown in the screenshot above). The best way to get there is to start your journey near the village of Falkret or next to the Dark Brotherhood’s Sanctuary and head north.

Hern is a vampire, so using brute force is not recommended, as in previous assassinations. But that’s not the only difficulty. Hert, his wife, is also a vampire and stays in the same location (as shown in the screenshot above). Hern himself rarely sleeps in a small hut, which is also closed.

The best solution is to eliminate Hert when she’s outside the hut. If you plan to surprise attack her, wait until she’s alone (usually in the evening) and attack her from behind (as shown in the screenshot above), preferably by stabbing her in the back. If you prefer direct combat, attack the vampire during the day, because these creatures become stronger at night. After winning the battle, check yourself for injuries that may result in turning you into a vampire. If so, purchase a cure potion or heal yourself in another way.

New main goal: Report back to Nazir

You can now return to the Dark Brotherhood’s Sanctuary and report to Nazir what you’ve done. If you plan to complete other contracts received from him, do so before returning to the assassins’ hideout. Nazir will reward you with gold.

FAQ

What is a side contract?

A side contract is an agreement made between two parties involved in a main contract. It is a separate and distinct agreement that is not included in the main contract. The purpose of a side contract can be to add additional terms or conditions to the main contract, to clarify existing terms, or to address specific issues that are not covered in the main contract.

What is “Kill Hern” in a side contract?

“Kill Hern” is a term commonly used in side contracts to refer to a clause that allows one party to terminate the main contract if a specific person, often named Hern, is no longer involved or employed by the other party. The clause may also specify certain conditions under which the termination can occur, such as if Hern leaves voluntarily or is terminated for cause. The purpose of the clause is to give the party the ability to terminate the contract if a key individual is no longer involved in the project or business.

Is “Kill Hern” legal?

Whether or not a “Kill Hern” clause is legal depends on the specific terms and conditions of the clause, as well as the jurisdiction in which the contract is being enforced. In some cases, such a clause may be considered a restraint of trade or an unfair business practice. It is important to consult with legal counsel to ensure that any side contract, including a “Kill Hern” clause, is legally enforceable.

What are the risks of including a “Kill Hern” clause in a side contract?

The risks of including a “Kill Hern” clause in a side contract include potential legal challenges to its enforceability, as well as the possibility of damaging relationships with the other party. If the clause is perceived as unfair or unreasonable, it could lead to a breakdown in the business relationship between the parties. It is important to carefully consider the potential risks and benefits of including such a clause before entering into a side contract.
