This section of the LEGO Skywalker Saga guide provides a step-by-step walkthrough of the Solo in the Snow (Hoth and Cold) level from Episode 5 – Luke’s quest on Hoth.
This page gives you the first part of the Episode 5 walkthrough (The Empire Strikes Back), which includes the Hoth and Cold level and the related minor quests. The guide takes you through the process of getting to the 3 Signal Towers, climbing up the towers, positioning the antennas, and finding Luke.
Note – The walkthrough assumes that you’re playing through episode 5 in Story Mode, and doesn’t include secrets or collectibles described on separate pages of the guide. It’s recommended that you complete the Story Mode of every episode first before replaying them in Free Play.

Where’s Luke
You’ll start the fifth episode in the Echo Base controlling the C-3PO and R2-D2 droids. You can explore the snowy base, but it’s optional.
To continue the story, you need to reach the command center and stand in the blue circle to trigger the scene of Han Solo taking part in the deliberation. This will start the Hoth and Cold level.
Hoth and Cold – challenges
This level has 3 challenges:
- Avoid the Droid! – Shoot down five Probe Droids (as shown in the picture) without them spotting you. It’s a simple challenge because Probe Droids have a limited field of view, which is marked by the game. Aim at each Probe Droid from a distance and fire until you destroy it.
- Not a Probe-lem – You have to shoot down 1 Probe Droid without being spotted. This is a simpler version of the previous challenge.
- Stylish Way Down – You have to find and use all 5 zip lines. An example of the zip line is shown in picture 1, and you’ll reach three of them by climbing the towers as you progress through the mission.
- The other two wires require further exploration. The map with the places to slide down zip lines is presented in picture 2. Complete this challenge before entering the cave after climbing all 3 towers.
Hoth and Cold – northern Signal Tower
Your primary objective in this stage is to activate 3 Signal Towers to determine the location of Luke Skywalker. The towers are marked on the map and can be reached in any order.
The north tower is initially inaccessible due to the raised drawbridge. Start by dealing with the Probe Droid patrolling the area – it’s best to shoot at him from a distance. Pull the lever and then board the damaged ship. You need to fire at the ice that supports the nearest part of the drawbridge.
To lower the second part of the bridge, place Han Solo in the position indicated in the picture and aim at the purple target. The protagonist will automatically locate and shoot at the weak point, lowering the remainder of the drawbridge.
Eliminate the flying droid that has emerged. You cannot immediately climb the tower. Destroy the objects at the tower’s base to move the chest displayed in the image above. You may now ascend it.
This task entails leaping from one elevated edge to another, some of which may move sideways. In such cases, wait until they return to the position that allows you to access them.
Upon reaching the top of the tower, interact with the console to rotate the large antenna. Use the audio signals and the color change of the beam to determine the correct orientation – the antenna must face the sky (as shown in the image above).
You may slide down the tower (it is the first of five zip lines related to the Stylish Way Down challenge).
Hoth and Cold – southern Signal Tower
The path to the southern tower is obstructed, and you must remove the obstructions first. To do so, reach the large turret shown in image 1, which is located a short distance west of the tower.
Use it to eliminate the obstacles (image 2). They are piles of snow marked with small red squares.
You may now access the southern tower. Although the game allows you to climb right away, keep in mind the moving components and wait for them to stop in the correct position or move around them.
Use the console as before and adjust the second antenna, which must be oriented towards the sky.
Hoth and Cold – eastern signal tower and end of the mission
The eastern tower is yet to be reached – it is located inside the facility enclosed by a high wall. Eliminate the Probe Droid and pull the lever to open the main gate.
Climb the stairs. Along the way, you will find an object to push as shown in image 1. Drop it downstairs and build a ladder from it.
Use the lever once again, this time to close the large gate. Use the ladder to climb back upstairs. Shutting the gate will enable you to run over it (image 2).
You will arrive at the last, eastern Signal Tower. A Probe Droid will appear to steal the energy source. Look out for bouncing blocks. You may construct one of two objects using them:
- Magnet – It can attract the droid towards you.
- Turret – It can fire at the Probe Droid.
Regardless of the option you choose, you will retrieve the energy source. Place it in the slot at the tower’s base (as shown in the image above).
To reach the final tower, follow the same steps as in the previous two. Use the console to adjust the antenna and point it in the correct direction. Positioning the antennas correctly on all three towers will reveal Luke’s location on the map. Your destination is the ice cave, where the next cutscene will take place and end the level.
