Additional Minutemen Missions

Defend a Settlement

Unlocking: Complete the main quest, The First Step, and meet with Preston Garvey (at his current location) or listen to Radio Freedom near the Castle. This quest is one of many random missions.

This Minutemen mission can be unlocked after finishing The First Step quest and deciding to continue working with the faction by speaking to Preston Garvey. You may be asked to help defend one of the Minutemen’s settlements, which will be chosen at random. Head to the specified location and consider building defensive structures, such as turrets, before the battle begins. The settlement may be attacked by monsters, raiders, or members of enemy factions. To avoid failure, you cannot allow all the settlers to die. Once the battle is won, speak to one of the surviving settlers and then report back to Preston.

Mission Rewards: Experience points, bottlecaps.

Important – There is also a slightly different version of this mission where instead of defending the settlement, you must protect a previously placed artillery position. This version is not significantly different from the regular one.

Kidnapping

Unlocking: Meet with settlers from a location protected by the Minutemen. This quest is one of many randomly unlocked missions.

This Minutemen mission can be started by meeting with a resident of one of the settlements protected by the faction. One of the settlers may ask you to rescue someone who has been kidnapped by raiders. There are two possible solutions to this mission: you can give the settlers the necessary bottlecaps to pay the ransom, or you can go to the bandit hideout and try to free the hostage. If you choose the second option, you must go to a randomly selected location in the game world. Save your progress before entering the location, as the hostage’s death will cause the mission to fail. Eliminate all of the bandits and free the hostage. Then, return to the questgiver and report to Preston Garvey after collecting the reward from the settler who gave you the mission.

Mission Rewards: Experience points, bottlecaps.

Resettle Refugees

Unlocking: After completing the main quest, Nuclear Option, meet with Preston Garvey. This quest is one of many randomly unlocked missions.

This Minutemen mission can be received after completing the story quest, Nuclear Option, during which the Institute is destroyed. However, this will only happen if you gave the evacuation order and allowed innocent workers of the Institute to leave the facility before destroying it. During a conversation with Preston Garvey, you may be informed that Institute refugees may need assistance. Meet with a refugee and then go to the location in the game world that the refugee specifies. Eliminate all enemies in that location – they may be raiders or monsters. Once the battles are over, find and activate the workshop. Then, speak to the refugee again and return to Preston to give him a full report.

Mission Rewards: Experience points, bottlecaps.

Rebel Agent

How to unlock: You need to speak with Preston Garvey after finishing the main Minutemen quest, The Nuclear Option. The Rebel Agent mission is one of the random quests that become available after completing the main story.

The Rebel Agent quest is just one of the many random missions that relate to the Minutemen faction. It becomes available after you complete the Nuclear Option quest, which involves destroying the Institute. During a conversation with Preston Garvey, you will learn that a synthetic agent who fled from the Institute has joined a group of raiders. Your task is to travel to the randomly designated location in the game world where the raiders are based. Once you arrive, eliminate both the agent and the raiders. Then, return to Preston and report your success.

Quest rewards: Experience points and bottlecaps.
