Important note: This quest is not mandatory and can only be taken after completing the major Companions quest Glory of the Dead.

You can receive this quest from either Vilkas or Farkas. Once you agree to take on the task, you will be asked to accompany your shield-brother on a dragon hunt in a randomly selected location in the game world. Check the world map and head to the marked location. If you have the Dragonrend Shout, use it to force the dragon to land on the ground.

If you don’t have the Shout, you will need to fight the dragon in a traditional manner, either waiting for it to land or attacking it with ranged weapons and spells. Keep fighting until the dragon is defeated and you absorb its soul (as shown in the screen above). Finally, speak to the quest giver to receive your reward.
