Different Types of Characters in Dragon Age Inquisition

Class Selection Window

Once you have chosen your race, you will need to select the type of character you want to play. There are three basic character classes to choose from: Rogue, Warrior or Mage. Each of these classes can also have an additional specialization:

  • Rogues can specialize as Archers or Dual-Wielders – they use range attacks with the bow (and only Varric has his own crossbow), or from shadows, equipped with medium armors.
  • Warriors can use Weapon & Shield or a Two-Handed weapon – here, you have a wider choice: swords, axes and hammers (especially the last group is noteworthy, because you can deal AoE damage with them), additionally, they can wear the heaviest available armors.
  • Mages have a uniform gear available: light armors (note: the qunari do not wear the classic headgear – they use special war paints which, although they provide some protection, they fall short of regular helmets) and staffs.

Specialization selection is not permanent; you can distribute the points for the given specialization after you reach the next experience level. If you are not satisfied with your previously chosen type of weapon, you can always change it. Each class has a group of specific abilities, e.g. the Rogue can learn how to become invisible and perform surprise attacks. The warrior can encourage his companions to fight and provide them with additional buffs. Things are a bit different with mages, as you can distribute your points to four different spell types. Also, there are expert specializations where you can pick one out of the three available ones later in the game. They are picked for your character only, and the default specialization activates for your companions.

Note – Remember that there is one exception to these rules: dwarves cannot become Mages.

FAQ

What are character classes in Dragon Age Inquisition?

Character classes in Dragon Age Inquisition refer to the different types of playable characters that the player can choose from. Each class has its own unique abilities, strengths, and weaknesses. The four main classes are warrior, rogue, mage, and specialization classes, which include subclasses such as Templar, Reaver, and Assassin. The class chosen by the player affects the style of gameplay, and how the character interacts with the game world and other characters.

What are the differences between the different character classes?

Warriors are the most physically powerful and are best suited for close combat. They have high health and can withstand a lot of damage. Rogues are agile and can use stealth to avoid enemies, and are best suited for ranged combat. Mages are the most versatile and can use magic to attack from a distance, heal allies, and control the battlefield. Specialization classes offer unique abilities and skills that are not available to the main classes. Templars, for example, can use magic-disrupting abilities, while Reavers can use blood magic to enhance their abilities.

Can I switch between character classes in Dragon Age Inquisition?

Players cannot switch between character classes during gameplay. However, players can develop their character’s abilities within their chosen class, and can also choose a specialization class later in the game. It is important to choose a character class that suits the player’s preferred playstyle, as it can greatly affect the gameplay experience and the success of the player’s character in combat.
