Waking Nightmare – p. 2

New main objective: Speak to Erandur

New main objective: Locate Vaermina’s Torpor

Speak to Erandur again and he will ask you to find a bottle of Torpor. The location of the Torpor will be marked on your map. You can find Vaermina’s Torpor on one of the shelves in the lower part of the Laboratory (as shown in the screen above).

New main objective: Speak to Erandur

New main objective: Drink Vaermina’s Torpor

Return to Erandur and tell him that you have found the potion. He will ask you to drink the content of the bottle. Navigate to your inventory, select the potions tab, and drink the Vaermina’s Torpor (as shown in the screen above) by pressing E.

You will find yourself in an unusual scene that takes place in a dream and shows the events prior to the release of the gas that was meant to stop the Orcs from obtaining the Skull of Corruption. You need to change the course of events slightly. The good news is that you do not have to worry about your safety throughout the dream. Start by listening to a conversation between two Vaermina priests and respond to one of them at the end (as shown in the screen above).

New main objective: Release the Miasma

Head east, go through the consecutive rooms, and ignore the priests fighting the Orcs (as shown in the screen above). You do not need to worry about not having any weapons, as no battle will end prematurely and no Orc will attack you.

Keep exploring the temple, using stairs along the way. Eventually, you should reach one of the main corridors of the temple. Approach the chain marked by the game (as shown in the screen above) and interact with it to release the Miasma. Watch the last scene and the dream will come to an end.

New main objective: Disable the Magical Barrier

New main objective: Speak to Erandur

Stay where the dream ended and take the Common Soul Gem marked by the game (as shown in the screen above) to disable the magical barrier. Approach Erandur and speak to him. The mage will be pleased that the plan has succeeded, and you will be able to head to the last room of the temple.

Reaching the Skull of Corruption

New main objective: Defeat Veren and Thorek

Follow Erandur, who should head southeast. You will need to fight a couple of times on your way, so be prepared. Keep an eye out for the considerably strong Orcish Invaders (as shown in the screen above). Block their attacks and try to keep them at a distance, depending on your follower’s skills.

You will soon reach the Skull of Corruption. I suggest saving your game here, as you will meet two priests – Veren Duleri and Thorek. They will be enraged at Erandur for leaving them behind, and they will attack you after a short conversation.

Defeat Veren and Thorek to Complete the Main Objective

Prior to battle, increase your resistance to lightning as Veren and Thorek will mainly use spells of that type. If your character is more of a direct combat fighter, try cornering a chosen priest and prevent them from escaping.

If ranged attacks are your preferred method, take advantage of the fact that the enemies will initially be focused on attacking Erandur. Regardless of your chosen method, keep fighting until Veren and Thorek are defeated.

Speak to Erandur and Wait for the Barrier to be Dispeled

After the battle, speak to Erandur who will begin the ritual of removing the magical barrier surrounding the Skull of Corruption. You don’t need to do anything in particular yourself. Vaermina will speak to you in the meantime, suggesting that after obtaining the Skull, Erandur will turn against you and that you should kill him now. This is an important moment in the quest and it is recommended to save your game in order to make an informed decision.

Choose Between Murdering Erandur or Allowing Him to Complete the Ritual

If you choose to kill Erandur, do so before he completes the ritual. Attack him by surprise, using your best skill to deal maximum damage. Erandur is not much stronger than the other priests you have fought before, but keep an eye on his health level. After the battle, take the Skull of Corruption from the pedestal. It’s not a very useful staff, with the ability to deal additional damage when there are sleeping foes in the area.

If you choose to let Erandur finish the ritual, simply wait for it to finish and speak to the friendly priest. This option won’t give you any material prizes, but you will be able to invite Erandur to join your party as a full-time member.

FAQ

1. What are some common symptoms of Waking Nightmare?

Waking Nightmare, also known as Sleep Paralysis, is a condition in which a person is temporarily unable to move or speak while falling asleep or waking up. Common symptoms include a feeling of pressure on the chest, difficulty breathing, and hallucinations. These hallucinations can range from a sense of being watched to seeing frightening figures in the room.

2. What causes Waking Nightmare?

The exact cause of Waking Nightmare is not fully understood, but it is thought to be related to the normal sleep cycle. While Waking Nightmare can be a frightening experience, it is not physically dangerous. It is important to note, however, that if you experience frequent episodes of Waking Nightmare, it may be a sign of an underlying sleep disorder or other medical condition. It is always best to speak with a healthcare provider if you have concerns.

4. How can Waking Nightmare be treated?

There is currently no cure for Waking Nightmare, but there are steps that can be taken to reduce the frequency and severity of episodes. Maintaining a regular sleep schedule, practicing relaxation techniques before bed, and avoiding stimulants like caffeine and nicotine before sleep can all be helpful. In some cases, medication may also be prescribed to help regulate the sleep cycle.
