What are encampments in Days Gone?

Encampments are distinct locations on the Days Gone map where Deacon is completely safe from attacks by Freakers or bandits. Upon entering an encampment, players can take on new missions, replenish supplies, upgrade their bike, and acquire new weapons.

Deacon can travel to encampments on foot, by bike, or by using the fast travel option. He can enter a camp by approaching one of its gates (provided the player has discovered the camp during the main storyline).

How many encampments are in the game?

The game features five primary encampments:

  1. Copeland’s Camp (Cascade region)
  2. Hot Springs (Belknap region)
  3. Iron Mike’s (Lost Lake region)
  4. Diamond Lake (Crater Lake region)
  5. Wizard Island (Crater Lake region)

For more information about each camp, consult the relevant section of our guide. If players experience difficulty reaching any of these encampments, they should make progress in the main storyline, which will unlock access to other parts of the map.

In addition to the primary encampments, players can return to O’Leary Mountain Safehouse, a fenced location that serves as Deacon’s and Boozer’s starting hideout. Although players can revisit this site later in the game, they won’t find any enemies there.

Credits, points, and Trust levels

Encampments in Days Gone are closely tied to credits and Trust points. Each encampment has its own credit and Trust point count. Completing missions earns players credits and Trust points for the relevant encampment. The game displays the number of credits and Trust points earned for a particular encampment on the mission completion screen (see the example above).

Players can also earn credits and Trust points by delivering supplies to encampments. The reward varies depending on the type of item delivered. For instance, an ear from an “elite” Freaker like a Breaker is worth more credits and Trust points than a Newt’s ear.

To find out how many credits and Trust points you have, either highlight a specific camp on the map or open the inventory menu. Credits can only be spent in the camp where they were earned. You can use them to buy weapons, weapon modifications, bike upgrades, and consumables such as ammunition, medkits, and grenades. Trust points are similar to experience points, and you need to accumulate a certain amount to reach a new Trust Level in a particular encampment. By reaching new Trust levels, you can unlock new items sold by merchants. Every side quest in the game is assigned to a specific camp, so try to complete them all to level up your Trust faster. You can also deliver bounties and goods to increase your Trust. Copeland’s Camp and Hot Springs are the two camps available at the beginning of the game. Copeland’s Camp offers bike upgrades, while Hot Springs has new weapons. Iron Mike’s Camp is in the central part of the map and is connected to missions and side activities in two different regions, making it a great place to increase your Trust. Crater Lake has two camps – Diamond Lake and Wizard Island. Diamond Lake is the place to go for the best bike upgrades, while Wizard Island has the best weapons. In every camp, Deacon can buy and sell items, refuel his bike, repair it, and sleep to advance time.

To progress in the game, there are several things to do. Firstly, save the game and change the time of day by interacting with the specially marked bed. Secondly, visit a merchant to purchase new weapons, ammunition, upgrades, and consumables. You may need to reach a specific Trust level in each camp to buy certain items. Thirdly, visit someone who buys Freakers’ ears which you can get by defeating them. Sell them in bulk to earn credits and Trust points. Fourthly, go to the kitchen in each encampment to sell meat and plants for credits and Trust points. Keep crafting materials like Herbs, Berries, and Mushrooms for making cocktails. Fifthly, visit a mechanic who can fill up your gas tank, repair and retrieve your bike, and sell bike parts for modifications that improve performance or change appearance. Some modifications require a specific Trust level. Sixthly, meet up with a camp leader who can offer new side quests for Deacon. Lastly, look for collectibles placed near NPCs, buildings, and tents. Check the World Atlas chapter for their locations inside the encampments.
