Death Incarnate

New main objective: Enter the Sanctuary

It’s recommended to wait until nightfall before approaching the Dark Brotherhood’s Sanctuary to make it easier to plan your actions. The entrance to the hideout is guarded by fur Penitus Oculatus agents, and if you’re lucky, you can surprise attack a few of them (as shown in the screenshot). Once the fight starts, focus on taking out the mages and archers first. Make sure all enemies are eliminated before moving to the main entrance of the Sanctuary. When you arrive, you’ll discover that the hideout is under attack, and you can only try to rescue any surviving members.

New main objective: Search for Survivors

Begin exploring the Sanctuary. You’ll encounter two Penitus Oculatus agents in the first room (as shown in the screenshot), and you should be able to surprise attack them with no problem. Move on to the main cave. Don’t try to save Arnbjorn, as it’s impossible. Instead, be prepared to take out two more agents – an archer and a warrior. Proceed towards the dining room (the path is very linear as other corridors are blocked by flames).

New main objective: Kill Nazir’s Attacker! New main objective: Speak with Nazir

Once you reach the dining room, you’ll hear sounds of battle coming from the sleeping quarters. Quickly use the stairs to get to the upper level and help Nazir defeat the person he’s fighting with – Arcturus (as shown in the screenshot). This character is tougher than regular agents, but he is busy attacking your ally, so you don’t have to worry about him. After the fight, talk to Nazir, who suggests fleeing the burning Brotherhood hideout as soon as possible.

New main objective: Escape the Sanctuary New main objective: Embrace the Night Mother

Thankfully, you don’t have to think too much here – just follow Nazir. The Night Mother will “speak” to you along the way, inviting you to her coffin. Wait until you get there and then approach the sarcophagus (as shown in the screenshot), closing yourself inside. A longer cutscene awaits you, during which you have to rely almost exclusively on your hearing. At the end, the Night Mother will ask you to find Astrid.

New main objective: Talk to Astrid

First, talk to the only surviving members of the Brotherhood, Nazir and Babette (as shown in the screenshot). Inform them that according to the Night Mother, Astrid is somewhere in the Sanctuary. Head towards the already secured first chamber of the hideout.

Once you get there, turn right twice, and you’ll find the room with a dying Astrid (as shown in the screenshot). You’ll learn from her that she was the one who betrayed you in an attempt to save the Brotherhood from extinction. She now understands her mistake and wants to atone for it. It doesn’t matter how you react to the news of Astrid’s betrayal, but at the end of the conversation, she will ask you to kill her.

The task at hand is to kill Astrid, which is now the new primary objective. Another objective is to retrieve the Blade of Woe, but it is optional. It can be found lying next to Astrid, and although it is a perfect dagger, it is not necessary to use it to kill her. It is also essential to listen to the gathered people’s comments about Astrid’s betrayal.

After completing the objective, the next step is to return to the Night Mother, which is the new primary objective. Find her sarcophagus in the main chamber and listen to her speech. She wants the contract to be fulfilled, which involves tracing down the real emperor. Amaund Motierre, who was previously met, will assist in this task. Completing this quest unlocks the Dark Brotherhood quest, Hail Sithis!
