Joining Railroad Faction

The Railroad faction is a well-hidden group located beneath the Old North Church in the central part of Boston. You can discover the hideout during the Road to Freedom quest, where you’ll receive hints on how to get to the headquarters and meet important members like Desdemona. The quest can be found in your journal after eavesdropping on a conversation in Diamond City, and can be started at any time during the game. If you don’t complete it, you’ll still have the chance to meet the faction during The Molecular Level quest.

After completing Road to Freedom, you can take on both main and side quests from The Railroad. During The Molecular Level quest, you can ask for their help in building a teleporter. This is optional, but if you do ask for help, you’ll be assigned the Underground, Undercover quest, which will strengthen your ties with the faction but harm your relations with the Institute and Brotherhood of Steel. The final main quest for the Railroad is The Nuclear Option, where you’ll need to destroy the Institute HQ.

However, if you become an enemy of the Institute (for example, by killing one of their members), you can receive the Burning Cover quest from the Railroad. On the other hand, accepting certain quests from other factions like End of the Line (Institute) and Blind Betrayal (Brotherhood of Steel) can make you an enemy of the Railroad.

FAQ

What is a railroad?

A railroad is a form of transportation that uses tracks to guide wheeled vehicles called trains. The tracks are typically made of steel and are laid out in parallel lines, with the distance between the rails being standardised to allow trains to run on any line. Trains consist of a locomotive that pulls a series of cars or carriages, and they can transport people, goods, or both. Railroads have played a significant role in the development of modern industry and commerce, allowing for the rapid movement of goods and people over long distances.

What was the impact of railroads on the industrial revolution?

Railroads had a significant impact on the industrial revolution by revolutionising transportation. Before the advent of railroads, transportation was slow and expensive, making it difficult for businesses to move goods over long distances. Railroads allowed for faster, cheaper transportation of goods, which in turn stimulated economic growth and led to the growth of new industries. Railroads also allowed people to travel more easily, which helped to expand markets and increase demand for goods. The increased efficiency of transportation brought about by railroads helped to create a more interconnected and globalised economy, and played a significant role in shaping the modern world.

What are the safety precautions that railroads take?

Railroads take a number of safety precautions to ensure the safety of their passengers and employees. One of the most important safety measures is regular maintenance of the tracks, locomotives, and trains. Railroads also use safety equipment such as signals, gates, and barriers to warn drivers and pedestrians of approaching trains. Train crews are required to follow strict safety procedures, and are trained to respond to emergencies such as derailments or other accidents. Railroads also work closely with government agencies to ensure that safety regulations are followed, and to implement new safety measures as needed. Despite these precautions, accidents can still occur, which is why it is important for all individuals to be aware of the dangers of trains and to follow safety guidelines when using or near railroad tracks.
